How we got here

Over the past thirteen years, SHoP Architects established a reputation for engaging construction processes well beyond the level of a typical architectural firm. Its clients frequently requested that it supplement construction team efforts by providing amplified construction administration services. In 2007, SHoP Construction was formed as a response to this evolution and as a confirmation of our dedication to building.

SHoP Construction’s mission is to utilize emerging technologies to provide sustainable construction management. SHoP Construction utilizes BIM in a Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) process which allows project coordination to begin earlier than it would if following traditional approaches to project delivery. Our processes limit RFIs and change orders during the construction phase, thereby reducing actual construction costs.

SHoP Construction embeds 4D (schedule) and 5D (cost) metrics in virtual realms which enables designers to consider these criteria as an integral part of design. SHoP Construction is also developing ways to embed and track 6D (green) project criteria to assist owners in attaining LEED® compliance and certification.

At project close-out, SHoP Construction delivers Facilities Management (FM) models to owners that accurately reflect the as-built condition of their projects. These models are infused with data such as equipment identification, maintenance schedules and hyperlinks to product websites. The facilities models can also be linked to Building Monitoring Systems (BMS) so that owners can better understand how their buildings are performing over time.

The company is headed by its six principals; including, the five principals of SHoP Architects and Jonathan Mallie who also serves as the company's Managing Director.

SHoP Construction is dedicated to industry transformation through innovative practice.
